This week’s Grand Rounds started off with Journal Club covering everyone’s favorite medication, droperidol! We followed this with a blast from the past, alum and guest lecturer Dr. Iserson who delivered this quarter’s Global Health Grand Rounds. The Sports Medicine Interest Group gave key points on the hand, elbow, and hip exam. Finally, the day ended with video review of two pediatric resuscitations to make us all pause the next time we see the chief complaint “shortness of breath” pop onto the trackboard.

This week Dr. Freiermuth showed us how to create a research project. Drs. Tillotson and Makinen discussed the evidence on open fracture management. The R2 CPC between Drs. Ramsay and Nagle taught us an important lesson on HIV and ITP. Finally, Drs. Iparraguirre, Li, Makinen, and Mand created a simulation to teach management of a pediatric nicotinic poisoning.

Welcome to another Grand Rounds Recap. This week Dr. Sayal, a visiting lecturer from North York General Hospital in Toronto, Canada, started us off with some pearls and pitfalls for the patient presenting with musculoskeletal complaints. Next up was Dr. Thompson who provided us some tips on how to prevent the most common patient and consultant complaints in the emergency department. Dr. Habib then led us through an interesting case involving an internal degloving injury. We then ended the day with small groups and a simulation led by Drs. Grand Rounds Recap 10.31.18

We had a diverse and interesting set of topics for this week of Grand Rounds! Dr. Mehlman, a pediatric orthopedist, took us through high-yield, can’t miss orthopedics cases. Following this, we went through strategies in team-building and recruitment with Drs. Stettler, Fermann, and McDonough as part of our Leadership Curriculum. Dr. Jarrell then presented local data on our Naloxone Distribution program and opioid overdoses. We concluded the day with a lecture on hernia diagnosis and management by Dr. Leech, followed by a fantastic small group session on Wellness lead by Drs. Jarrell and Banning.
