This was led by two prominent leaders in our very own emergency department- Drs. Fermann and LaFollette. Next, we join Dr. Finney on a journey as she reflects on the relationships we build with our patients and their families, as well as providing insight on how to cope with the grief that we may face following the most difficult cases. Lastly, Drs. Chhabria, Davis, and Gobble, help us prepare for the upcoming ITE exam by providing us with useful quick hits relating to orthopedic injuries, PEM, and toxicology.

Join us as we recap our last week of Grand Rounds, including our first intern lecture of the year focusing on pericarditis & myocarditis. Learn about the art of skillfully resuscitating a patient with an LVAD, as well as the tips/tricks for effectively communicating with patients, from our senior residents. Learn how to confidently handle ENT emergencies in the community and orthopedic trauma in a limited-resource settings. Our pharmacy colleagues gave us an timely update on use of Precedex in the ED, as well as Andexxa vs. PCC for reversal of Xa-inhibitors. Lastly, our pediatric EM colleagues joined us to discuss to subtle difference in diagnosis and management of neonatal & pediatric seizures compared to adults.

We had a fantastic Grand Rounds this week!! Dr. Li kicked us off with our monthly Morbidity and Mortality conference, covering cases ranging from methamphetamine intoxication to the evidence behind the medical pan scan. Dr. Harty then led us through several cases where ultrasound made critical diagnoses that completely altered patients’ clinical courses #SonoWavesFTW. Dr. Modi passionately educated us on the importance of an individual’s name, in both identity and cultural significance, and how crucial it is to respect and pronounce names correctly. Lastly. Drs. Berger, Irankunda, and Urbanowicz expertly discussed pediatric orthopedic injuries.
